                New!  Brownsville TIMELINE

When did they build the old hospital on Church Street?

Were Brownsville and South Brownsville formerly two separate towns, and if so, when did they become one town?

Where was Brownsville's first theater ... and what happened to it?  And when?

How about that fire that destroyed the First Presbyterian Church?  Do you seem to dimly remember that happening in your lifetime?

Have you ever wondered when a particular store opened or closed, or a school burned down, or the town raised money to fight off the Confederate army, or the Brownsville public school was located on Fifth Avenue, or what year Brownsville won the WPIAL football championship, or ...  ?

You've come to the place where you just might find some answers.  And meanwhile, you can have a look at the timeline of a town's life ... of the lives of three towns, in fact!

Welcome to Brownsville TIMELINE, a chronology of events, some major, some minor, in the history of the Three Towns.

Here's an important note.  Brownsville TIMELINE is an evolving DRAFT document.  It is not finished.  In fact, it is nowhere close to being finished.  But I thought you might like to see what events it includes so far, so I'm making the ever-growing draft version of it available here for those who might be curious.

You may find errors.  Final proofreading has NOT happened.  There are still items to be footnoted properly, typos to be corrected, etc.  And there is a lot of material yet to be added.  But Brownsville TIMELINE, though this is an incomplete draft version at present, already has a LOT of information in it.

So, for what it's worth, you're welcome to have a look at this work-in-progress.

Events will continue to be added to it.  You may also notice that there are not many events listed after the late 1980s.  Many of the events in this TIMELINE are gleaned from articles in the Brownsville Telegraph, which stopped publishing in 1988.  So there's that challenge.

But TIMELINE will continue to grow as work on it progresses.  In the meantime, you're welcome to check out the current version of Brownsville TIMELINE.
